Weekday School

Calendar

Smoke Rise Baptist Weekday School has been loving and serving children since 1973. Children have enjoyed a fun and save learning environment that is part of our tradition.

Your Child's Success is Our Number One Goal!

Smoke Rise Weekday School is a vital part of the Smoke Rise Baptist Church ministry. Through our program we meet the needs of church members, parents, children, and the surrounding communities. The Weekday School provides excellent facilities, caring teachers, and a curriculum that stimulates young minds.

Exploring, discovering, and playing are a child's way of learning. Play teaches the child processes that otherwise cannot be taught. Play is a must if the child is to grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. Our school emphasizes play at all ages to develop a well-rounded child.

Classes

Smoke Rise Baptist Weekday School offers a variety of classes through 5 year kindergarten. Our curriculum consists of:

The Toddlers and Twos Class meets two to four days per week, from 9:20 a.m. until 1:20 p.m.

The class consists of two teachers with a maximum of 10 children enrolled. Through play, the children experience and practice our Priorities:

Worship We introduce very young children to the meaning of worship by singing songs about Jesus and saying prayers. Before each snack and meal, we say a blessing and the children participate by folding their hands and saying "Amen." The class hears a Bible verse every day.

Learn As the children play, they learn by experience and from each other. They learn how to make friends and how to be a friend. They begin to learn the concepts of sharing and independence. We introduce phonemic awareness and concepts like letters, numbers and colors. We also learn the wonders of God's world from leaves and pinecones to rain and snow. We express what we learn through art projects and simple crafts.

Care Gentle guidance, security and routine help little ones to know from experience that they are cared for, and model caring examples for them to follow. They are already beginning to make friends.

Serve Sharing and taking turns are some of life's hardest lessons! They are also ways that very young children begin to serve one another.

Give Bringing items for a food drive, making gifts at Christmas and Mother's Day or a card for the pastor allows children to be givers, too.

The daily schedule includes music and movement, free play with blocks, toys, a home living center and reading. We have outside play (weather permitting) in an age-appropriate playground or active play room. Lunch and snack are part ofthe daily routine.

The Older Twos Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:20 a.m. until 1:20 p.m. (Wednesdays and Fridays are additional optional days.)

The class consists of two teachers with a maximum of 10 children enrolled. Through play, the children experience and practice our Priorities:

Worship  Age appropriate Bible stories are read in the classroom daily. We say morning prayers and lunchtime blessings. In Music class we sing songs of praise to God.

Learn We have daily lessons presenting letters, numbers, colors and shapes. Sightwords is used to teach listening skills and phonemic awareness. The Peabody Early Learning Experience is used to reinforce beginning learning skills. We have monthly units on topics such as school, family, animals, transportation and the world around us.

Care At Circle Time we talk about who we love and how we can help those we love. We begin to make friends and practice being a good friend. We show we care by welcoming new people, thanking those who help in our class or school and sometimes sending cards to those who are sick or moving away.

Serve Children take turns being the class leader, providing snack, and bringing books to share. Sharing and taking turns are ways that very young children serve one another. Also, we talk about ways that children can help others.

Give Bringing items for a food drive, making gifts at Christmas and Mother's Day or a card for the pastor allows children to be givers, too.

The daily schedule includes Circle Time, free play with blocks, puzzles and various activity centers that are related to the current unit of study. We read books and have a snack and lunch.
