Meet our 2024-2025 Staff

Rashette Walker, Weekday School Director

Rashette began providing childcare at Smoke Rise Baptist Church for the Mother’s Bible Study group in 2015. From there, she began substitute teaching with the Weekday School and that led to a teaching position in the fall of 2016. Rashette accepted the Director’s position at the Weekday School in 2022. One of Rashette’s three children is a graduate of SRB Weekday School program.

Rebekah Edmonds, Weekday School Assistant Director

Rebekah is a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church. She is a mother of three has a daughter that is currently enrolled in the Weekday School. Rebekah accepted the position as the Weekday School Assistant Director in 2022.  She has her undergraduate degree from Samford University and a Master of Divinity from McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University.

Tanya Gongora, Whales Teacher

Ms. Tanya was born in Belize and she loves going back during the summers to spend time with her family.  Ms. Tanya began subbing in 2018 and joined the Weekday School teaching staff in the fall of 2018.  She is mom to two girls and enjoys sports of all kinds, but particularly cycling and volleyball.   She attended Shippensburg University and where she received a Bachelor of Management Information Systems.

Betelehem Haile, Whale's Teacher

 Ms. Betelehem  joined the Weekday School staff in 2019.  She is from Ethiopia and speaks Amharic.   She has two sons and both are graduates of Smoke Rise Weekday School.

Lisa Mixon, Whales Teacher

Mrs. Mixon is an Atlanta native and a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church where she has served as a Deacon. She’s married and is a mom to grown twins who also attended the Weekday School. Mrs. Mixon has taught at the Weekday School over 30 years and thinks that teaching children is the best job! She enjoys cooking, gardening, and the beach.

Marta Demere, Dolphin's Teacher

Ms. Marta is new to the Weekday School this year.  She is from Ethiopia and speaks English,   Amharic and Tigrinya.  She is mom to two children, one who previously attended the Weekday School.  Ms. Marta is a member at Smoke Rise Baptist.

Liv Moore, Dolphins teacher

We are delighted to welcome Liv to the Weekday School staff this year.  Liv is a high school senior and is completing the requirements for a work-study program.  She is a member at Smoke Rise Bapitst Church and enjoys being in the color guard for her high school marching band.

Jillian Wilkes, Dolphin's Teacher

Ms. Jillian is a graduate of Smoke Rise Baptist Weekday School! She is a lifelong member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church and has been a teacher at the Weekday School since 2019.  She is a mom to two, both who attended the Weekday School.  She is an animal lover and currently has “Ms. Jilly’s Farm” with a goat, a pig, chickens, cats and dogs!

Glenda Giles, Starfish Teacher

Ms. Glenda rejoined the Weekday School staff this year after having previously taught here for four years.  She is originally from Kentucky and is mom to two grown children and has four grandchildren.  Ms. Glenda attends Smoke Rise Baptist and is a children’s Sunday School teacher.  She has a degree in graphic design from The University of Georgia.  She is our resident artist and is currently taking piano lessons and learning French for fun!

Fatima Hyman, Starfish Teacher

Ms. Fatima is the older, evil twin of Ms. Rashette!  (Just kidding!  But she is older and they are twins!)  She has rejoined the Weekday School staff this year after having previously taught here for 10 years.  She is a mom to three girls and her grandson is a current student at the Weekday School.

Kimberly English, Sea Horse's Teacher

 Ms. Kim is new to the Weekday School this year.   She has one daughter a background in nursing.  

Grace Staggs, Sea Horse's Teacher

Ms.  Grace is new to the Weekday School this year.  She is a graduate of Parkview High School and a member at Smoke Rise Baptist.  She is also currently serving as the Childrens Ministry Intern.  Grace is actively involved with pageants and currently holds the title, Americas National Miss South Carolina.   She is working on a degree in Psychology from LSU.

Susan Banks, Classroom Assistant and Floater

Ms. Susan joined the staff as a teacher in the fall 2022.  She eats all the sweets and she loves her puppies.   She is a mom to two and loves children of all ages.  Ms. Susan also works for Smoke Rise Baptist in their nursery.
