Weekday School

Calendar

Smoke Rise Baptist Weekday School has been loving children for over 40 years. Children have enjoyed a fun and save learning environment that is part of our tradition.

Your Child's Success is Our Number One Goal!

Smoke Rise Weekday School is a vital part of the Smoke Rise Baptist Church ministry. Through our program we meet the needs of church members, parents, children, and the surrounding communities. The Weekday School provides excellent facilities, caring teachers, and a curriculum that stimulates young minds.

Exploring, discovering, and playing are a child's way of learning. Play teaches the child processes that otherwise cannot be taught. Play is a must if the child is to grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. Our school emphasizes play at all ages to develop a well-rounded child.

Classes

Smoke Rise Baptist Weekday School offers a variety of classes through 5 year kindergarten. Our curriculum consists of:

The Toddlers' Class meets on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:20 a.m. until 1:20 p.m.

The class consists of two teachers with a maximum of 10 children enrolled. Through play, the children experience and practice our Priorities:

Worship We introduce very young children to the meaning of worship by singing songs about Jesus and saying prayers. Before each snack and meal, we say a blessing and the children participate by folding their hands and saying "Amen." The class hears a Bible verse every day.

Learn As the children play, they learn by experience and from each other. They learn how to make friends and how to be a friend. They begin to learn the concepts of sharing and independence.

Care Gentle guidance, security and routine help little ones to know from experience that they are cared for, and model caring examples for them to follow. They are already beginning to make friends.

Serve Sharing and taking turns are some of life's hardest lessons! They are also ways that very young children begin to serve one another.

Give Bringing items for a food drive, making gifts at Christmas and Mother's Day or a card for the pastor allows children to be givers, too.

The daily schedule includes music and movement, free play with blocks, toys, a home living center and reading. We have outside play (weather permitting) in an age-appropriate playground or play time in the gym. Lunch and snack are part of the daily routine.

The Kindergarten Class meets Mondays through Fridays from 9:20 a.m. until 1:20 p.m.

The class consists of two teachers with a maximum of 16 children enrolled. Through instruction and play, the children experience and practice our Priorities:

Worship Weekly Chapel highlights Bible stories and God's creation. Bible verses in the classroom coordinate with the weekly Letterbook. We say morning prayers and lunchtime blessings. In Music class we sing songs of praise to God.

Learn The Kindergarten class focuses on readiness for first grade and beyond. We use the McGraw Hill Beginning to Read, Write and Listen and Mathematics Their Way curriculum. The math is a center based, hands on approach to learning that uses manipulatives. The centers provide enrichment, encourage independent work and allow students to find unique solutions. We explore what it means to be a Christian and ways to show that in our lives.

Care We care for others by making friends and being a friend. We practice everyday opportunities to be kind and to be loving friends.

Serve Children take turns being the class leader. Sharing and taking turns are ways that young children serve one another.

Give We give of ourselves by making gifts at Christmas and Mother's Day. We also have opportunities to participate in Church food drives and collections.

The daily schedule includes Group Time, Reading, Math, Journaling, special activities and lunch. Twice a week, we have Music class. Weekly, we visit Ms. "M" for Storytime Classics and go to Chapel. We make art craft projects. We play outside (weather permitting) or in the gym. Field trips include the Atlanta History Center, The Symphony and we take Roller Skating lessons. We have special events such as Donuts with Dad, a pumpkin patch and Magic Show, Thanksgiving and Christmas programs, class parties, pajama day, a Mother's Day Brunch and our annual Smoke Rise Circus!
