Scripture

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

Story of Belonging

Not long after I joined the church, Bill Blanton approached me to share about our partnership with God’s Appalachian Project and invited me to join one of their mission trips. I accepted—and I’m so glad I did. That first trip was a joy and a blessing, and for the past twelve years, I’ve returned every chance I’ve had to be part of this mission endeavor.

Over the years, our team has built porches, decks, stairs, handicap ramps, hung sheetrock, installed flooring, repaired plumbing, and completed countless other projects—each one meeting practical needs while sharing Christ’s love with residents in the area.

I’m often reminded of our church’s strong mission focus—not only through these trips but also through the ongoing collections and outreach efforts that serve our local community. As a member of the Missions Committee, I’ve been amazed at the wide reach of our church’s efforts—local, state, national, and even international.

When new members join Smoke Rise, our pastor asks if they will commit to worship, learn, care, serve, and give. I feel so blessed to say “yes” to each of these, especially the privilege of serving others.

Thank you, Smoke Rise, for letting me be part of this incredible body of believers and for giving me the opportunity to put my faith into action.

Pondering

What work comes naturally to you? How do you use that for the good of God’s world?

Is there a way God is calling you to serve right now?

Prayer

God, Thank you for the opportunity to serve others in your name. Strengthen our hearts to say yes to your call. Help us to see acts of service to others as a reflection of the grace of Your work in this world. Amen
