Serving in GAP

by Carol Ann Fulgham, Trip Leader

One Kentucky lady at GAP said, “I finally got peace with myself by the forgiveness of others.” Kayla was just one of dozens of people we ministered to, loved, prayed with, cut their hair, fed and who blessed our lives.

Kayla taught us. “If you let negativity control you, it brings you down. Lots of people try to dim your sunshine, and they don’t won’t to brave the storm that comes after.”

We met each day with residents of retirement communities and at the GAP Ministry Center and listened to prayer requests: “I’ve had Covid five times, blood clots, two heart attacks, a broken neck and back.”  “Pray for my son who is in prison for rape, but he didn’t do it.” Stories of sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, depression, hopelessness—too many and too sad to share. But, please pray for these sweet people.

Ten women from Smoke Rise ministered by preparing meals, playing games, making crafts, cutting hair, giving out toiletries that our church provided, praying, singing and just listening to the stories.

These women expressed thanks to Smoke Rise, for allowing them to represent our church in one of the poorest counties in the nation, saying, “We were blessed to go.”
