Scripture

Ephesians 1:20-24

God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Story of Belonging

I was raised in a single denomination and had limited exposure to other traditions of faith. When I went to college—an institution affiliated with the denomination of my upbringing—I quickly discovered how ecumenical the faculty and staff were. During my time there, I was introduced to a variety of denominational perspectives and was deeply moved by the fact that Christians from many different backgrounds genuinely cared about my growth—not only as a student but also as a follower of Christ.

I love the local church because it serves as our entryway into the broader community of the Universal Church. And I love the Universal Church because it reflects the vastness of God Himself—His infinite presence, His limitless love, and His mission that stretches far beyond our individual lives. Across eras, continents, cultures, and experiences, the Church bears witness to the truth that God’s Kingdom is greater and wider than anything we can imagine.

Pondering

When was the last time you were in a space that thought differently from you?

How has listening to fellow believers who believe differently from you allowed you to grow?

Prayer

Remind us that we are part of this body, called to live in the strength, unity, and hope that comes from Christ alone. Fill us with the wisdom to see Your power at work in us and through us, so that in all we do, Christ may be glorified.

In Christ’s name we pray,
Amen.
