Scripture

1 Peter 2:4-6

Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones let yourselves be built[b] into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture:

“See, I am laying in Zion a stone,
    a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Story of Belonging

“While I was away pursuing my graduate degree, I increasingly struggled to feel the presence of the body of Christ around me. I knew I wouldn’t be in that place for long, which made me hesitant to establish roots in a church, knowing I would eventually have to leave. This fear left me feeling more isolated, unable to share my struggles with others who could support me on my faith journey.

When I returned to Smoke Rise and walked into the sanctuary, it was like coming home after a long journey. Surrounded by smiling faces and warm embraces, I realized just how important the church is to me. Without a place to worship and nurture my faith within a community, I lost the opportunity to give God a dedicated space in my life.

I love that the church has provided me with a family of believers who wish to see me grow into the man God intends for me to be. Furthermore, I appreciate that the church isn’t confined by walls; our congregation continuously strives to support one another in everything we do. This is what the Bible calls the church to be: a living embodiment of the word of God.”

Pondering

What does it mean to you to be a family of believers?

When have you felt most at home in your faith family?

Prayer

God, You surround us always with Your love and Your people. Help us to seek out safe spaces where we can find comfort, ask questions, share our struggles, and celebrate our joys. Amen.
