Noah

Read: Genesis 8:6-12

Devotion:

In this story, Noah and his travel companions are still aboard the arc. They are waiting for the water to dry up on the land. Noah sent out a dove to see if the land was safe. The dove returned to the arc and Noah knew it was not safe yet. After several days, he sent out the dove again. When the dove returned this time, it was holding a leaf from a tree. A sign to Noah that it was safe to return to land and leave the arc.

Noah’s adventure in the arc was coming to an end after a very long time. Before leaving the arc, he had to be patient and make sure it was safe to return. As we wind down the summer and return to our homes, we may be as eager as Noah to return to a familiar place. We may ask our fellow travelers the famous question of “Are we there yet?” But as we travel home or to a new destination, may we have the patience of Noah.

Wonder: What are some ways we can be patient travel companions this summer? If you could fly like a dove, where would you go? What would you do?

Pray: Dear Lord, we thank you for the places we’ll go this summer. As the summer winds down and our travels wind down, help us to return safely home. Amen.

Act: Reflect on your travels so far this summer. Share your most fun traveling memories with your friends or family.
