Read: Ruth 1:6-10, Ruth and Naomi Find Their Common Path

When Naomi heard that the Lord had given his people a good harvest, she and her two daughters-in-law got ready to leave Moab and go to Judah. As they were on their way there, Naomi said to them, “Don’t you want to go back home to your own mothers? You were kind to my husband and sons, and you’ve always been kind to me. I pray that the Lord will be just as kind to you. May he give each of you another husband and a home of your own.”

Naomi kissed them. They cried and said, “We want to go with you and live among your people.”

Devotion:

Naomi was traveling with her two daughter-in-laws. In the middle of the journey she encouraged her daughters-in-laws to travel on a new path. A path without her. Naomi felt she could not offer much more to her daughter-in-laws. But her daughter-in-laws wanted to stay with her on the journey. They could not imagine traveling without her and taking a different path. The daughters expressed their loyalty to Naomi in the middle of their trip. They formed a bond and did not want to travel without her.

Many of us may have people that we travel with this summer. We may go for a long trip or a short trip. Wherever we may go we should continue to express our love and care for those traveling with us. Whatever the journey may bring we should strive to stay loyal and kind to those on the road with us.

Wonder:

How might you respond if you were in the position of Naomi’s daughters?

Who might you have in life that you can’t imagine traveling without?

Pray:

Dear Lord, thank you for those who are close to me like Naomi is to her daughters. Thank you for the roads we will travel on this summer like Naomi and help me to be a traveler that is loyal and continues to spread to those on the journey with me. Amen.

Act:

Express gratitude for someone close to you today. You can write them a nice note or help them with a chore something simple to say you are thankful for them.
